Voice-Chat with a Chatbot !!

I am here again with an assignment I had so much fun doing it 😄 

In this assignment, I had a short but a beneficial conversation with ChatGpt. I was asked to choose a particular question and my conversation with this AI started with the question "what a perfect language classroom would look like?" The chat lasted around 5 minutes and ChatGPT did not only give me the answers, but it communicated with me with follow-up questions and asked my opinions after it claimed its ideas on our topic. This was a natural and a beneficial conversation although it was not exactly like human communication. Then, I wrote a reflection paragraph about this experience and used another AI tool (ChatGPT) to correct my mistakes. The revised version avaliable with my original report, I realized how effective AI tools can be in foreign language learning and teaching.  

First, talking to ChatGPT was easy and comfortable. I especially asked from it to talk to me in a natural way and it quickly adapted. One of the best parts was it gave me fast and complete responses, which made the conversation more enjoyable. However, one of the drawbacks was that despite its accuracy on grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, I could not get a sincere sensation and any demonstration of emotions from ChatGPT, which is a feature that cannot be overlooked. For beginners, it's a great tool that can help them to improve their speaking skills in case of anxiety, fear of judgment. However, for intermediate and advanced learners it might not be the best way to foster their skills since AI cannot provide the actual language use as native speakers do. These potential benefits and drawbacks are need to be considered in language learning very carefully by us, foreign language teachers. 

After this experience, I started to think about how I can use these tools in my own teaching. For example, students who feel shy about speaking could practice with AI first, and after they are confident enough, they could start speaking with the natives. It could also help students to get feedback on their assignments. As a teacher candidate, I believe checking each assignment would be a difficult task so the assistance of AI tools can both help the teacher and save plenty of time which might allow for in-class activities.

A Vox-Pop Podcast : Our Journey of Creating One

 Hey everyone ^^      Today I am here with an amazing work that I have created and enjoyed so much during the process. An English Podcast!      For this project, we were asked to create an ELT podcast either alone or with a pair. My friend Baran and I have come up with a vox-pop podcast where we asked a bunch of students of Marmara University from different departments about a single question. Which fictional character would you want as a teacher? Their responses showed us that many students prefer clever, confident and slightly mysterious characters such as like Sherlock Holmes, Dr. House, and Harvey Specter. Besides, the female characters were lesser than male characters among all the answers.
