21st Century Learning and AI Integration into Foreign Language Education

 

21st century learning requires gaining skills that are needed in today’s world. In my opinion, it particularly needs a fast adaptation and acceptance to the changes and situations of technology. It is especially vital in terms of language learning and teaching owing to the emergence of a plethora of applications and inventions that support the foreign language learning journey. They are used in favor of improving someone’s proficiency in any language they desire to learn, or simply foster a skill that they do not feel quite confident without any help of language teachers.

Since these students are digital natives and they know very well how to manipulate AI in their assignments and basically integrate it to their academic life, the in service teachers and teacher candidates need to be one step ahead of these natives.

However, how we can make sure that the teachers always stay ahead of these students?

We need to accept the truth that methods of learning a foreign language have shifted, which means ,the traditional methods can no longer be utilized in the classrooms. In the past, classrooms were the only place where a student could practice their second language. But now, they can practice everywhere with their cellphones through many AI apps. This requires an AI implementation into the educational settings so that teachers can also make use of AI and keep students attention and enthusiasm during the lecture.

In conclusion, embracing AI and the changes are not optional but it is an obligation.
